| Habitat: Rich grasslands in Uganda, neighboring countries
in Africa
Food: Grasses
Weight: 900-1600 pounds
Fun Facts: The Ankole Cattle are named after the
Watusi tribe of Africa. These cows and
bulls are capable of running and jumping
with tremendous agility. They are highly
social, preferring to stay in a group
for company and protection.
Ankole-Watusi
cattle possess the largest and most dramatic
horns of any breed of cattle. Since their
daily temperatures range from 20 to 120
degrees, they tolerate temperature and
weather extremes well. The large horns
act as radiators; blood circulating through
the horn area is cooled and then returned
to the main body. This allows excess body
heat to be dispersed. |
